This is a
recording of an interview with Late Chief D. N. Fobellah of Bellah village, one of the best remembered and most loved chiefs of Lebang. Chief Fobellah speaks about his long life from the days of his childhood, his years as a policeman, his succession to the throne of Bellah and his many years of rule. He touches on the history of Lebang, Fon Asonganyi and the Catholic Mission. The interview took place in his palace at Bellah on the 28th April 1986 and is conducted in Pidgin English. Mbe Forbinake was born about 1895 and was
about 7 when the German forces arrived in the Bangwa area in 1902. At
the time of this interview Forbinake was in his mid-90's. The interview took place on the 3rd October 1990 in his compound in Lewoh next to Catholic Mission Fotabong. Forbinake speaks in Nwe with Mbe Tatu giving a summary translation in English. Forbinake speaks about: the invasion of the German armed forces; the German colonial period; the life of the first Christians in Lewoh; the establishment of the Catholic Mission and what life was like in the early 1900's.
